Factors Associated with Somatic and Psychological Anxiety that Influence Academic Performance in Eighth-Semester Students
Main Article Content
Abstract
Mental health is central to higher education due to the high prevalence of anxiety. According to the WHO (2023), 301 million people worldwide suffer from anxiety disorders, a condition that also affects university students and has been observed in the Laguna de Durango region. Anxiety, both psychic and somatic, interferes with concentration and academic performance. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify the factors associated with somatic and psychological anxiety in university students and their impact on academic performance, in eighth-semester students of the Pedagogical University of Durango (UPD), specifically for the experience of the student who is about to graduate, while passing through the process of completing the semester, the construction of research theses, as well as the professional examination and evaluation of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP), to obtain a teaching position, linked to the academic burden and limited family support. This was carried out with a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach, an online form was applied with sociodemographic variables. It was concluded that detecting these factors in time allows improving learning environments and strengthening teacher training, providing evidence to design institutional support strategies.
